In short
Talkmi runs on your own computer. It reads the WhatsApp chat you have open, only for chats where you switched translation on, and sends the message text to the translation service you chose. Talkmi never sends WhatsApp messages on its own and does not keep your messages on any server.
What stays on your computer
- Your WhatsApp Web session (the same as in a browser).
- Settings, contact profiles, and API keys. API keys are encrypted with your operating system's secure storage.
- A translation cache (message id and translation), so the same message is never translated twice.
- Usage counts and estimated costs per translation service.
What is sent, and to whom
- Your own API key (Anthropic Claude, OpenAI or compatible, Google Translate): message text and, for Claude and OpenAI, the last few messages of that chat as context go directly from your computer to that provider, under their terms.
- Local Ollama: nothing leaves your network.
- Talkmi free trial: message text and chat context go to the Talkmi proxy, which passes them on to Anthropic and returns the translation. The proxy stores only a random installation id and the number of translations used. It does not store or log message content.
What Talkmi does not do
- It does not send messages without your click.
- It does not read chats you did not switch on, your contact list, or your media.
- It has no account, no advertising and no analytics tracking.
Deleting your data
Uninstall Talkmi and remove its data folder (<code>%APPDATA%\Babli</code> on Windows, <code>~/Library/Application Support/Babli</code> on Mac). To stop WhatsApp access, also remove this computer under Linked devices in WhatsApp on your phone.
